Star-Clustering plan to boost innovation and entrepreneurship

2016-06-27

Tsinghua Holdings declared that it will cooperate with its partners to begin a Star-Clustering Plan, which will foster more than 500 enterprises with a value of over 100 million yuan each, by integrating maker spaces, funding, talents and the global channel, on June 26.

Xu Jinghong, chairman of Tsinghua Holdings, said, "It is really important to create a positive innovation and entrepreneurship system," adding that the Star-Clustering plan will precisely converge more resources and services to build a sustainable and efficient system and motivate innovation and entrepreneurship.

According to Xu, China is now facing a new situation, in which innovation, instead of productive elements and investment, stimulates economic growth, but there are still many obstacles, such as limited resources, scanty experience and an immature innovation culture. Xu believes that the plan will combine the functions of maker space, capital, entrepreneurs, global trends and collaborative cooperation to solve these problems.

To begin with, Star-Clustering Plan aims to establish 1,000 incubators and maker spaces in over 100 domestic cities, of which over 100 will receive the country's support; it will also establish another 50 incubators overseas. Entrepreneurs can settle in these incubators and enjoy various resources, in accordance with the "Incubator City Network" strategy.

The plan also focuses on collaboration with seed investment, angel investment, venture capital and private equity based on Tsinghua Holdings' own fund to provide initial investment to innovative enterprises. It announced that Tsinghua Holdings will expand its fund to 20 billion yuan, improving a trillion-yuan-valued capital market.

In relation to human resources, Tsinghua Holdings plans to set up a "Tsinghua Holdings entrepreneurship college", inviting outstanding entrepreneurs, and to organize a professional training team to pass on experience and skills, accepting 200,000 trainers and inspiring 100,000,000 beginners in five years.

It will institute incubators in the US, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, South Korea, Israel, Singapore, Spain, Australia, Russia and many other countries to attract foreign entrepreneurs and access advanced theories, and also help local entrepreneurs to improve their international perspective.

In addition, Tsinghua Holdings will cooperate with over 100 companies and organizations on supply chains, marketing channels, research systems and production processes. It intends to create a "Tsinghua Holdings Incubation" brand, make the first incubator identification standard in China and found a "Tsinghua Holdings incubation service call center" to share resources with each identified incubator and related companies.

After nearly 30 years work on innovation and entrepreneurship service, Tsinghua has incubated and serviced tens of thousands of enterprises and millions of entrepreneur groups, including several listed companies with a 30-billion-yuan market value and leading corporations, such as Nuctech, Global Safety Technology, Hwatsing Technology, Tongfang Microelectronics, Tongfang Knowledge Network, Chengzhi Yonghua Display Materials and Tsinghua Solar.

The TusPark, the largest university science park in the world, which is operated by Tsinghua Holdings subsidiary Tus-Holdings, has over 1,000 enterprises and invests over five billion yuan in scientific research every year, having incubatedaround 30 public companies, including Sumavision, Chinese All, and Highlander Digital. Another subsidiary, THTI Holdings, has built the first entrepreneurship community, the Creative Young Community, and the first entrepreneurship street, the Zhongguancun Inno Way, in China; the latter has become a well-known innovation park with 160,000 attendees and 1000 teams.

Going beyond the periods of "maker space+ value-added service" and "incubation+ investment", Tsinghua Holdings has entered into the third period of incubation integration -- resources convergence, transboundary integration, open evolution, culture infiltration, network unit and value sharing -- and given birth to the Star-Clustering Plan, whose purpose is to foster enterprises with innovative ideas, breakthrough technology, a far-sighted perspective and the courage to overturn the current industrial framework.
