Overview
Tsinghua Holdings Co., Ltd. ("Tsinghua Holdings") is a solely State-owned limited liability corporation approved by the State Council.
In September 2003, to incorporate enterprises under its control, Tsinghua University founded Tsinghua Holdings with a registered capital of 2.5 billion yuan ($395.13 million). In 2018, the company ranked No. 137 in China's Top 500 enterprises by revenue and No. 3 by R&D efforts.
Tsinghua Holdings aims to intensively participate in and contribute to the implementation of innovation-driven development strategies and the commercialization of university scientific and technological research achievements. By connecting the university with superior social resources, it is poised to become a world-leading scientific and technological innovation transformation platform, a scientific and technological innovation investment and financing supporting platform, and a state-owned capital management platform. Tsinghua Holdings’ commitment to promoting scientific and technological achievement commercialization, innovation and entrepreneurship further supports the development of Tsinghua University as well as the maintenance and value appreciation of state-owned assets.
Tsinghua Holdings operates in five specialized areas: advanced technologies (integrated circuitry, environmental protection, and healthcare); innovation services; sci-tech finance; creative and cultural industries; and online education. It has a number of affiliated comprehensive groups such as Tongfang Co., Ltd., Tsinghua Unigroup, TusHoldings Co., Ltd., and Chengzhi Shareholding Co., Ltd.; as well as subsidiaries including Tsinghua Holdings Habitat Development Group, Tsinghua University Press, CapitalBio Corporation, Tsinghua Holdings Group Finance Co., Ltd., Tsinghua Holdings Nuclear, and MOOC-EN Education. In addition, it has fostered some leading companies in terms of industry segmentation, such as Nuctech, GSAFETY, cnki.net, THTI Holdings, and Tianjin Hwatsing Technology.
To date, Tsinghua Holdings has held shares in many listed companies, including Tongfang Co., Ltd. (600100), Chengzhi Shareholdings Co., Ltd. (000990), Unisplendour Co., Ltd. (000938), Guoxin Micro, Tongfang Technovator (01206.HK), Tus-Guhan Group Corp Ltd. (000590), Neo-Neon Holdings Limited (01868.HK), Tus-Sound (000826), Tus International (00872.HK), and GSAFETY (300523).
As a Tsinghua University's platform to serve society, Tsinghua Holdings has been working on bringing Tsinghua University's scientific and technological achievements to the market. The company has commercialized 56 national key scientific achievements and made breakthroughs in over 62 key technologies. It has promoted commercialization of three national science and technology major projects and has made remarkable achievements in technology innovation and technology transformation, with many having an international impact.
Its achievements include the world's first high-temperature gas cooled reactor nuclear power plant; the freight container inspection system that enjoys the biggest global market share; China's first public safety and emergency response system with complete and independent intellectual property rights; China's first 12-inch CMP equipment; and the world first hereditary deafness gene test chip.
Tsinghua Holdings is also the operator of the biggest university science park in the world and the first entrepreneurship street in China.
