Fan Weicheng
Professor Fan Weicheng is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and an expert in public safety and emergency management. He is head of the Tsinghua University-Hefei Public Safety Research Institute.
Fan holds a variety of other positions as well, including member of the expert committee of the China National Commission for Disaster Reduction, director of the disaster prevention and reduction expert committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, deputy head of the China Fire Prevention Association, and chairman of the Asia-Pacific Public Safety Science and Technology Society.
Fan has made speeches at the State Council's National Emergency Management Work Conference and given a topical speech at the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC.
His main research fields include public safety risk assessment, monitoring and supervision, prediction and early warning, and decision-making support. He also studies the theories and technologies of emergency management, fire dynamics and prevention technology.
To date, Fan has published ten academic books, the English-versions of which are published in other countries such as the US, Japan and the UK.
Fan has been awarded many kinds of honors, including a National Science and Technology Progress Award first prize and two second prizes, nine awards for scientific and technological achievements at the provincial level, and a National May 1 Labor Prize. He also holds or has achieved 12 invention patents.
