The deputy head and chief planner of the Tsinghua Tongheng Planning & Design Institute Co Ltd, a member of the urban-rural planning standard technique committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the vice-chairman of the Urban Planning Society of China's urban design division and a member of Pangoal Institution.

Yuan Mu has directed some important projects, including the master plan of the tourism development in the Tibet autonomous region and the urban landscape planning of Wenchuan county, Sichuan province. His achievements in urban-rural planning and design made him a winner of both domestic and international awards.
