Century Hall of Tsinghua University (Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co Ltd)
The Century Hall of Tsinghua University, an architectural complex that integrates functions of convention, performance and exhibition, was built to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Tsinghua University. The Century Hall has a building area of 31,720 square meters aboveground and 11,230.5 underground, including a theatre and multiple-functional conference hall with 2011 seats, a music hall of 522 seats and a Tsinghua University history museum.
The project sits in the core of Tsinghua University’s campus as a marked building for Tsinghua University’s new beginning for the next one hundred year of development as the university celebrates its 100th birthday. Therefore, it presents new ideas in design and unique art expressions.
The theatre circular arc outer wall is regularly divided by isosceles triangles, which form a rhythmical effect that not only has gradations of light and shadow but also create a luxurious and cheerful atmosphere for the theatre.
The project’s overall design has six parts, including civil design, acoustic design, interior trim, stage process design, outdoor pipe network, and landscape. It won the architectural design award issued by the Architectural Academy of China in 2012 and the Ministry of Education’s outstanding design award in 2013.
