Zhixueyuan digital teaching services platform was researched and developed by Tsinghua University Press. The platform was included in the project library of reform and development of the press and publication industry in 2012 and subsidized with national funding. Conforming to international advanced teaching concepts, it maximizes sharing of teaching resources by using digital technology. Some of its technologies, such as equation editor, were applied by edX, an online learning destination and MOOC provider founded by Harvard University and MIT.

At present, the platform has 65 online courses, covering fields from computer science and engineering to business and economics.
