Spreadtrum works with Dialog on more power-efficient smart phone solutions

2017-03-13

Leading Chinese chip provider Spreadtrum Communications, affiliated to Tsinghua Holdings' subsidiary Tsinghua Unigroup, has announced that it is working with Dialog Semiconductor to develop LTE chip platforms and solutions for the customized smart phone market.

The UK-based semiconductors company, one of the world's leading power saving solutions providers, will provide support to Spreadtrum's LTE products with its highly integrated mixed signal power management technology.

"Dialog will power our products with technologies that provide efficient, fast charging and highly integrated solutions for high-end smartphones, which will greatly improve user experience," said Li Liyou, president and CEO of Spreadtrum.

"The cooperation with Spreadtrum enables Dialog to apply its advanced energy-saving technologies to the latest LTE platforms," said Dialog CEO Jalal Bagherli.

"Spreadtrum has taken a large market in Asia, which provides a great opportunity for Dialog to expand in Asia's emerging market. We will work together to bring customers and users with better LTE platforms and to meet the needs for a new generation of smart phones," Bagherli added.

In the first phase of the cooperation, Dialog will support Spreadtrum's 14nm 8-core 64-bit LTE SoC platform SC9861G-IA with its latest SoC chip SC2705.

The SC9861G-IA, launched by Spreadtrum at the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is based on Intel's 14nm foundry platform and Intel Airmont architecture, and offers powerful mobile computing performance.

Dialog's SC2705 features a haptic driver for eccentric rotating mass motors and linear resonant actuators, an LED backlight driver, an auxiliary power for TFT or AMOLED display, and a high-efficiency on-chip charger.
