University students worldwide have a new chance to show off their skills in computer science, information technology, and artificial intelligence! Tsinghua University in Beijing will be holding a brain-inspired computing competition from August to October.

Contest winners have a chance to receive prizes up to 1 million yuan ($147,000), courtesy of strong supporters Tsinghua Holdings and Tus-Holdings. The Center for Brain Inspired Computing Research of Tsinghua University will be the host of this event.

Contestants must show their works and ideas on brain-inspired intelligent systems, which can be robots, drones, wearable devices, natural language processing systems, human-computer interaction systems, and smart phone apps. Creative algorithms and applications are especially looked favourably upon. The works should present a strong versatility, big practical usage, and great prospects.

Brain-inspired computing serves the development of computers, cloud computing, big data processing, artificial intelligence, robots, and smart devices. Industries including manufacturing, agriculture, medical services, finance, and defense and security will all benefit from the development of brain-inspired computing.

"Brain-inspired computing is revolutionary in today's world of computing systems. Stimulating neural network architecture, brain-inspired computing imitates the way that the human brain processes information. It aims to promote the development of brain-inspired computers and to make artificial general intelligence a reality," said Professor Shi Luping of Tsinghua University.

This contest aims to spread brain-inspired computing to a wider audience/user-base, and to discover and train emerging talents from universities around the world. The organizers are hoping that the participants' creative ideas will contribute to new breakthroughs in scientific research in the field.

About the contest:

The brain-inspired computing contest is open to university students around the world. The participants can register as individuals or teams.

Those interested can apply for the contest through the official website https://contest.cbicr.org/ before 12:00pm on July 23. The final contest will be held on October 14 and 15 at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
