Tsinghua Holding's subsidiary takes IFLA awards

The four projects of Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning and Design Institute (THUPDI), a subsidiary of Tsinghua Holdings Habitat Development Group affiliated to Tsinghua Holdings, shone brightly at the 2017 International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Asia-Pacific Regional Congress.

The congress, which represents the landscape architecture profession globally, was held in Bangkok, capital of Thailand, from Nov 2 to 4.

THUPDI's four projects were all listed for the IFLA's landscape architecture awards. The Comprehensive Planning of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition won the outstanding award under the analysis and master planning category, and the Landscape Renovation of Chaka Salt Lake won an award for excellence under the cultural and urban landscape category.

The Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning and Design Institute's project of Comprehensive Planning of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition wins the outstanding award at the 2017 International Federation of Landscape Architects Asia-Pacific Regional Congress.

The IFLA Jury rewarded the Comprehensive Planning of the 2019 Beijing International Horticultural Exposition as "an excellent master plan with comprehensive planning and design to amend past weak environmental actions in this sector of Beijing".

THUPDI's project of Landscape Renovation of Chaka Salt Lake wins an award of excellence. 

The project, adhering to the expo theme of "green living, beautiful homeland", integrates a multi-functional water system and resource recycling, which will become a model of habitat planning and design.

Chaka Salt Lake, located in West China’s Qinghai province, faced urgent needs of improvement and renovation in its existing tourist reception capacity and levels as it proved unable to meet the rapid development of local tourism over recent years. THUPDI has raised a solution that is not overdesigned but well restored and protected the local fragile salt system.

An honorable mention award is given to THUPDI's project of Low-impact Coastal Walkway of Huludao. 

In addition, the projects of the Low-impact Coastal Walkway of Huludao City and the Master Planning for Dahei Mountain National Forest Park in Dalian both received honorable mentions in parks and open spaces category and analysis and master planning category, respectively.

The coastal walkway with a total span of 5,200 meters is sited between Xingcheng city and Huludao city in Liaoning province. To solve the problems of deteriorating cliffs and roads as well as illegal occupation of land resulting in security risks, the path makes full use of the abundant materials on site, using loose rocks to reduce erosion and improve water permeation.

THUPDI's project of Master Planning for Dahei Mountain National Forest Park in Dalian receives an honorable mention award. 

Another action to reconcile tourism development with environmental protection, the Master Planning for Dahei Mountain National Forest Park in Dalian developed in a sustainable way.

Located in the middle part of Dalian, northern China, Dahei Mountain enjoys a unique view of Bohai Sea and Huanghai Sea. The master planning accommodates tourism and effective ecological protection while improving biological diversity, cultural landscape presentation. In doing so it provides benefits for locals and visitors, and creates a new scenic spot while extending the tourism pattern of Dalian.

THUPDI has now had 17 of its projects win IFLA landscape architecture awards over eight consecutive years.

More than 10 world-renowned experts and scholars were invited to talk at the conference on the theme of "Blue-Green-Culture". Four sub-forums featuring landscape and urbanization, eco design and sustainable development, landscape culture and user experience were designed with 40 papers given amidst discussions and exchanges.
