A delegation from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co Ltd (THAD), a member enterprise of Tsinghua Holdings Human Settlement Construction Group, picked up two awards at the Greenbuild China 2019 conference, held from Oct 23 to 24 in Shanghai.
The headquarters building of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) - a project which THAD was in charge of as the designer and consultant - was granted a platinum-level outstanding contribution award at the conference.
The company was also the planner and consultant for another winner of the award: Taizicheng Snow Town.
AIIB headquarters in Beijing
The AIIB’s headquarter was jointly designed by THAD and Architecten von Gerkan, Marg and Partner, while THAD completed the application for LEED platinum-level certification and China’s Three-Star Green Building independently.
Starting with the relationship between the human and environment, the project creatively applied ecological concepts and environmental technologies into the design, offering a green communication area and an intelligent office space
Moreover, the project integrated a series of advanced building technologies, such as digital machining technology in steel structure and BIM.
The energy performance assessment of the building, based on the ASHARE Standards, shows the photovoltaic power and solar hot water provided over 1 percent of the building’s total annual energy consumption and accounted for 32 percent of the total energy saving rate.
Andy To (L),and Mahesh Ramanujam (R) present the award for the AIIB’s headquarters.
At the conference, Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of the host of the conference, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI), and Andy To, managing director of USGBC in North Asia, presented the project with LEED platinum-level certification for its efforts in sustainability.
Taizicheng Snow Town
As a key project of the Winter Olympics zone in Chongli of Zhangjiakou, North China’s Hebei province, Taizicheng Snow Town was planned and designed by THAD’s Atelier TeamMinus.
Another branch of THAD completed the certification of the project’s individual building and planning scale.
The project was among the world’s first group of LEED for Cities Planning and Design platinum-level pre-certificated projects, and also the first winner in culture and tourism.
Taizicheng Snow Town is an integration of events venues and post-Games uses. With a design led by the snow and ice sports industry, as well as the mountainous landscape of northern China, the town is exploring a green development path by adhering to sustainable ideas.
It strives to be an attraction with both global influence and rich cultural connotations, and moreover, a world-leading low-carbon model.
