Eight projects by Tsinghua University Press, a subsidiary of Tsinghua Holdings, were chosen for the China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan, it was announced on November 22, 2019. The number of selected Tsinghua University Press projects ranked among the top three in all publishing houses in China and the top among university publishing houses.

In addition, Tsinghua University Press also won the bid for the "Science and Technology Journals Digital Communication International Platform Service" sub-project of the "International Digital Publishing Service Platform" project which had been announced earlier.

Two journals - Nano Research (English version) and Friction (English Version) - were selected as "Leading Journal" projects (22 items nationwide); four were selected as "Echelon Journal" projects (99 items nationwide); and two were selected as "High Starting Point New Journal" projects (30 items nationwide).

The "Science and Technology Journal of China Excellent Action Plan" was launched in September 2019 by the Chinese Association of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It is a national project of the highest level and with huge support in China.

The project focuses on promoting the high-quality development of sci-tech periodicals. It consists of seven sub-projects, including leading journals, key journals, echelon journals, high starting point journals, clustering pilots, international digital publishing service platforms, and high-level journal personnel.

In recent years, by using the disciplinary advantages of Tsinghua University, Tsinghua University Press has paid close attention to international academic frontiers and major national strategic needs. It has made significant achievements in developing English-language scientific journals, with the number and quality of such journals rapidly improving.

The China Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan will allow Tsinghua University Press to seize strategic opportunities, speed up the clustering, digital, and international development of sci-tech periodicals, and better serve Tsinghua University and innovation-driven development in China.
