Wetland Paradise on a Giant Rooftop – The Wetland park of Huaifang reclaimed-water plant

图片5.png

The wetland park of Huaifang reclaimed-water plant is the largest rooftop wetland park in China and also the first experimental design combining a wetland landscape with underground water treatment facilities. The site occupies 15.6 hectares, 12.8 of which are on the rooftop of the largest fully-enclosed underground reclaimed-water facility in China.

The design uses reclaimed water to create an artificial wetland on top of the treatment plant, to purify the water before it drains into the out-park drainage system of Beijing. The whole wetland park has become part of the water processing stage. The design simulates a natural structure, creating 103 different habitats. Terraced landforms have been constructed with net-mesh reinforced stone-gabion retaining walls and many different types of vegetation to incorporate the floodwater management system. A new form of lightweight fabricated steel-structure walkway was designed for the park, with stone-gabion retaining walls and some other lightweight construction materials for the low-load roof. An educational cabin and wooden walkway were also constructed.

The wetland park has brought social and ecological benefits to the city and is a paradise for animals and plants, demonstrating the harmonious co-existence of humans and nature.

Mayi Mountain Park, Oasis on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Mayi Mountain Park is located in Ledu district, Haidong City, eastern Qinghai Province, with an average elevation of about 1,750 meters and an area of about 18.6 hectares. It is in the central mountain area of the Huangshui River alluvial valley, the largest tributary of the Yellow River.

The design of Mayi Mountain Park is based on the ecological restoration of the Huangshui River Basin. By making use of the water resources of the upstream tributaries and adopting low-cost, low-maintenance methods, the park deals with water diversion, water storage, sedimentation, purification, and backflow channel. The water system design of the park also makes it possible for rainwater collection, plant irrigation, and improvement of microclimate, thereby reducing soil and water loss in the upper reaches of the river and providing a comfortable park for citizens and a natural habitat for animals and plants. The Mayi Mountain Park has become an oasis on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
