The facade floodlighting project of the Qingdao International Convention Center - the main venue of the 2018 Qingdao Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit (SCO) - recently won the 47th IES Outdoor Lighting Design Excellence Award from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES).

The center's night scene lighting was designed and completed by the Lighting Center of the Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua University Co, Ltd. (THAD) under the Tsinghua Holdings.

The IES Illumination Awards, held once a year, are awarded by the IES, which was established in 1906.

This award, together with the Lighting Design Awards issued by Lighting magazine and the IALD Lighting Award issued by the International Association of Lighting Designers, are the three most authoritative global lighting design awards.

Of them, the IES is the oldest and a recognized authority on lighting technology and education.
