At the very beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, under its president Cheng Jing's leadership, CapitalBio's team developed a respiratory polyvirus nucleic acid detection chip system that can finish testing for the disease within one and a half hours.
After getting approval, the team donated over five million yuan ($764,705.48) worth of chip kits to Wuhan, the city hardest-hit by the pandemic in China. These played an essential role in the diagnosis and treatment of clinical patients.
Meanwhile, CapitalBio conducted rapid scientific research of an integrated chip system and a mobile lab for nucleic acid detection.
With these technologies, nucleic acid detection can be completed in a fully enclosed and protected environment within just 45 minutes, reducing the risk of infection and false results.
During the outbreak, the inspection teams offered nucleic acid testing for key population groups across the country to help with the resumption of business production and studies.

Over the past two decades, Cheng and his team have taken the lead in every major national public health emergency, including the SARS outbreak in 2003. They have achieved the rapid development of China's biochip technology.
CapitalBio has always taken "health" as an important part of its corporate culture that concerns both individuals and the environment, as well as physical and mental health.
The company carries out a one-day comprehensive physical examination, 364 days of daily health monitoring, and various genetic testing services for employees. Lectures and free clinical activities are also available to encourage employees to keep healthy.
At the same time, the company focuses on employees' emotional conditioning. Through various training and knowledge sharing activities, employees can relax at work and relieve pressure.
To ensure employees' safety, the company conducted COVID-19 nucleic acid testing and brewed Chinese medicine in the cafeteria. It also shared health management knowledge via live broadcast platforms.
